EA is dropping this game for "ONLINE ONLY" on the PS2.No single player shit just online play.Up to 24 players at a time.It might just be worth getting.
Based on the blockbuster online multiplayer war Battlefield franchise, EA and developer Digital Illusions are taking the battle to another realm with a modern-war era edition somewhat similar to Battlefield 2 for PCs but developed exclusively for console gamers. Players from the United States, China and the Middle East Coalition will all be represented in harrowing battles of up to 24 players. Command tanks, choppers and any other of more than 30 military vehicles, and make use of more than 70 kinds of weapons (including heat-seaking missles, laser designated bombs and other modern military hardware.)

May 12, 2004 - Announced just a month prior to this year's E3, Battlefield: Modern Combat hit the show floor in a decidedly early form. But since the developers at Digital Illusions CE are focusing only on online multiplayer (there will be no single-player aspect to the game), even the pubescent version on display at EA's E3 booth shows early promise. Anyone familiar with either PC incarnation of Battlefield (1942 and Vietnam) will instantly recognized Modern Combat's signature gameplay. Two teams compete on large maps, struggling to hold possession of the number of flag points scattered throughout the map. But despite the shared gameplay premise, Modern Combat departs from its PC brethren by adopting a whole new game engine. The largest difference is in how vehicles control and feel, with overly-twitchy handling marring the otherwise solid and simple controls. The twitchiness is most obvious when manning the tank turrets, though the super-sensitive aiming will likely be tweaked before the game's release. The game features three geographic settings, including Moscow, China, and fictional Middle Eastern locales to encompass the 12-15 levels EA hopes to include in the final build. We played our brief two-match session on one of the Middle Eastern maps. The large level follows a street through a tight desert town, with either team starting their assaults on opposite ends of the town. With plenty of vehicles on call, including helicopters, Hummers, and tanks, it's easy to get around the map quickly, though the tight quarters definitely lend themselves more towards on-foot combat. Especially since a number of the flag points are inside the town's buildings, a reliance on vehicle muscle does no good on the map. In spite of some frame rate issues, aiming at enemies is responsive and precise. Modern Combat implements a slight auto-aim (not unlike Halo) that provides a slight aid in keeping enemies targeted. It actually works really well, and still requires a mastery of the controls to work to its fullest potential. The downside to the auto-aiming is that it tends to pull the crosshairs over the crotch of targets, away from crucial headshots. It's a fair trade for more accurate shooting, and can be counteracted with a steady hand for more damaging chest and head shots. Some of the early weapons include an assortment of assault rifles (all of which sampled have the ability to zoom), shotguns, flash bang grenades, and remote-detonated C4 charges. A number of mounted machine gun turrets are also in place, and of course the vehicles are fully packed with firepower. EA's determined to get the game running smoothly with up to 24 players online—unfortunately, at this point they've still got plenty of work to do. Playing on EA's network with around fifteen other players, Battlefield: Modern Combat has frame rate issues that make close-quarter combat a pain in the ass. EA is aiming for a steady 30 frames per second for the game's November release, which would be a huge improvement over what's currently on display—we'll see in November if PS2 has what it takes for an enjoyable online Battlefield experience. You got to watch this shit. All I can say is FUCK SOCOM media.ps2.ign.com/media/676/676927/vids_1.html?fromint=1#And its dropping this WINTER
