Yo before you pick do a little research on both.Check out this website www.easports.com/games/nbalive2004/home.jspI have to say that Im kinda liking the NBA Live but havent researched the ESPN but Im going to go do that right now.But the LIVE is looking off the chain. |

well...i woke up at 11:30....got dressed...and bought the new OPM...got home...popped it in and played espn nba basketball...
first thing i noticed is that while the player models look awesome...they also look small compared to nba2k3.
Graphics: The graphics are down right amazing...i got the chills down my back looking at bruce bowne inbound the ball..the jerseys, the faces looked amazing...the graphics are down right sweet...9.5/10
Gameplay: heres where i am a little disappointed...is it me or whenever the cpu gets the rebound it always runs a fast break? i mean wtf, i knew this game was gonna be faster, but i didnt know it was gonna be all fast breaks all the time..i am kinda pissed, because it seems like the fundamentels in basketball are no longer here in 2k4..for an example...remember in 2k3 where u pass it to the low post...get double teamed, pass it out to the open man, bump fake the defender..take a step up and shoot? well the gameplay doesnt even seem like that anymore...its hard 2 explain but it DEFINATLY seemed like sega went for aracde basketball in this game.
Its like theres only to types of game...fast break..or a half court game that consistes of extreme amounts of blocks and the half court game just feels wierd now..like i stated be4..the game doesnt have a realtisic feel to it anymore...
Plus, the amount of blocks is really obsurd, i mean were talkin about 18 blocks for the spurs and 8 blocks for the nets(actaully numbers...i was the nets) i mean u cant help but notice everytime u try and drive it in with jason kidd u get blocks almost all the time, u began to wonder "this cant be right" or "this isnt what the nba is like". I also wasnt able to find a real driving move...it seems like the only way u can drive is by doing crossover moves...7/10
i am not gonna waste all my time talking about the gameplay...youll guys see what i mean when u have the demo
fun factor: you think since its faster itd be more fun..while, imo its not as fun as it is hyped up 2 be...the fact that most of the time the gameplay doesnt seem right makes that "fast break fest" not much fun...now if it was mixed with realistic gameplay..iot wouldve been tremandous fun..
in conclusion i am actually disappointed..the best way to sum it all up is that the game just feels very wierd, the realistic factor of the game isnt to be seen here..and the amount of fast breaks are corny..w/e happened to getting back on d etc etc and the straight up fundementals?
i dunno..i was happy to buy the demo, but now i am just happy to see how the game plays, and now i can decide to buy it or not...i am seriously considering live now..simply because this game just seems sloppy.....what a disappointment..

post above is from the ign boards.But I did my reviews on both games and Im getting NBA LIVE.Ive watched videos on both games but the live has way more control overall which is what I want.Hopefully you will all go with LIVE so we can play online.I know you want ESPN Ars ,but really do some scouting before you pick it up man,Im voting for NBA LIVE 2004.

Sorry Ars, but I'm going to be buying Live too. I tried the demo and also found ESPN to be a little arcadish. I won't knock it completely just yet, but I am most def a fan of Live.

whats REALLY good!? (this is my first post since last week!!!) i like the review. i dont know, if you say live looks and feels better then im gonna take your word for it. im gonna go get that demo and try it out for myself. if the consensus is live over espn with all of you, i guess ill be gettin live... dont think youre gonna escape the ass whoopin that easily boys (pause).

Don't count out ESPN just yet. That game has been the best hoops game until last years Live. I will probably buy both,lol.

LMAO everytime my dad sees me with some shoes, i have to come up with some bullshit story about how i traded in some old ones...little does he know all he has to do is walk into my closet LMFAO i basically have to tell my parents that im goin to a store meeting everytime i wake up early to go get my shoes...the lie is starting to get old now, soon im gonna have to start renting storage somewhere so i can hide it all LMAO

Nobody in this clan is a bigger basketball fan than me(ask jackal, joker and yung) but to me the basketball games the last few years have been WACK...I haven't liked the gameplay at all...The last B-Ball game I played and liked was Courtside(Kobe's game) on the GameCube Console...I haven't ruled out getting LIVE but I would have to play it first to see if I like it...I won't just go out and buy it like I used to a few years back...Aiighht...
