I read the article...and to me it just seems like this dude is mad at EB...In the first paragraph he talks about how they want you to be proactive in selling...EVERY retail store is like that...when I worked for Bank of America...they were like that...Remember JW's was like the worst at that...the second paragraph he talks about their policy..that they stpped letting the employees take games home to try them and get an opinion of the game...they probably stopped that because cats were stealing games...and he talks about their not supposed to give their own opinions on games or accessories...I think the reason for that is..the obvious one...not all people like the same thing...and one person may think a game sucks...when 3 other people like it...The trade in policy he talks about is always been obvious...we've all traded in games and been like...WTF only $12 bucks for that..!! The pre-owned system thing..I went through 2 in like 4 or 5 years...the preorder thing...I mean if you preorder something...and 1 year later you go in without a reciept...and are like I pre-ordered Madden 06...can I have my game...ofcourse your not going to get it...I just think this dude had nothing better to do then write an article about EB...because he was mad at them...probably because he got fired...LOL...This is just my opinion...Good look on the article Joker...it was very interresting...I'm looking forward to find out how other people feel about it....

wow, i totally agree wit jester on this, that dude is a faggot. he says that eb has "secret shoppers," i fuckin work at subway and they do too. there is nothin shockin bout this article, the guy is a tool and probably had nothin better to do then write an article bashin his former employers, if i wanted to i could do that about marriott hotels, but it wouldnt be anything special either. he probably got money under the table from game crazy or somethin to write that article, that guy is a douchebag for wasting my time on readin it.

i'll read the article later but all i can say is i went to get an hdd like a year after i preordered it and they still had it in their computer system and gave me the 5 dollars i put down......but i will say that the dudes that work at eb in dartmouth are fuckin assholes. i've had like 3 bad experiences wit all different people in that place and i'm not the only one. the only cool one is that old dude, other than that they got some rude as punks that need to get ko'd. if dudes acted like they do in the middle of the mall the same way on the street they would get smacked.

okay i have read that article. First, that dude just got canned and is heated. Rumor has it he was next in line for a promotion to the guy who hands you a flyer as you walk in. Second, he made 1 good point. the "PeeS2". that shit is funny but true. As most of you know I am an assistant manager at CHAMPS. During christmas its true, you run out of room and yes the only place for shipment is the bathroom. Yes it is gross. and yes sometimes accidents happen. HOWEVER, if you got the guts to sell something that someone leaked on you have a fuckin serious problem. If they ever noticed your ass would get fired and god knows what else. The secret shopper is true....well at least we have them in Foot Locker INC. In fact I have had one shop me before. Not fun. This was an interesting article but this dude is just pissed off he'll be grillin McChickens for the next 3 years or so til something opens up at GameStop who probably does the same shit. Every company in retail has their associates learn sales programs that help sell to the customer. Every company believes at least 95% of their customers should leave with a bag from your store. Its RETAIL. Shit is crazy in retail but this dude is off the chain.

Well, shit lets clear the air, EB does not pay bad at all, Gamestop does, therefore now EB does, but this is only towards the part timers, I've been a third key at EB and paying my bills, and I'm about to get promoted to Assissant so EB has no problems handling all that. Eb Corpaorate does not tell you a bunch of shit you must tell customers. Now we do have whats called the circle of life, and this is what we are told helps to get customers back into the store and that for a lack of better words, we should "live" by. Of course you always discuss trades, that brings the business. Then presells, that gets the customer back into the store. Then you always wanna try to sell preplayed first, again, thats where we make our money, and of course sell the edge card, gets the savings, make them happy. This is like any other company though, shit they want you to be good at. Go work for a really big retailer, they will tell you to push credit cards till you die. And forget what this guy says, by no means do we lie to customer. I caught one of my employees lieing to customer, he got scolded for that. I had to take him off to the side and explain to him that we don't do that here at EB, nobody in my district does. OK and ask me I think about a few games, go ahead. Gun was short, go rent it. Marvel Nemesis, crap, but some people like it. There is a good game for every customer, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna let you the customer buy something I know you won't like. If uncertain of a game, buy it preplayed, don't like it? Bring it back within a week, I'll get you a different one. But I will striaght up tell someone a game won't be good for them, my job is to make the customer happy, not sell them crap. And the V.O.M. he speaks of, yeah it's true. Every month one vendor buys basically space at our store, not anymore though since the Gamestop take over, but for years yes. We'd set up a display for them in the front window of the store and right near the cash wrap, it would promote there shit and we'd also give bonus trade in values towards their games that month. So what! Ea Sports had a month every year, do you really think I need to push their shit on people? I think it sells itself. And yeah, some of the madcatz shit sucks a lot, but it depends on what you buy, and we also have warranties on all of them, bring the shit back! And anyway, we sell pelican now. I use pelican controllers for my PS2, I've had them for like 3 years, and they are still going strong. OMG, and yes we all know you get shit for trade in and generally we sell them for like twice what you get in trade, but if an item doesn't get traded in it's the employees fault. One good thing about that is we take every customers info. I had a customer trade in like 60 DVD's one day, then as I was processing them I noticed that I skipped like 5, so I looked up his info from his trade in paper and called him and put it on store credit for him and he came in the next day and picked it up along with a new receipt showing what I did. Fuck that guy, we have a stack of 5 games sitting in a cabinet because a customer left them teh other day and we don't know his name or anything. And if by some chance months from now they are still there we will not add them into inventory, they will probably be tossed. All systems get tested before the customer takes it home, the warranty covers damage from the customer, find out within like a month it doesn't work right, bring it back, we refund it and the warranty to apply toward another one. I'm not making someone eat the money from a warranty if it was a faulty system. And yeah we keep systems in our bathroom as of now too, but newsflash, we have two bathrooms. In Howard County once upon a time when my store was built you had to have a womens and mens room, now you don't. So we put a lock on the one door and shoved all the systems inside, that way the next time we get robbed he won't take any systems, but hell no we don't use that bathroom. And if people at his store were selling piss covered systems there is something very wrong with him. And yeah, around the holidays we put stuff in the bathroom we use too, but its all boxed up and you just don't amke a mess of it. Peer in an EB back room one day, they are way too small not too. LOL, and the preorder thing. Wanna know the truth? Yeah if you don't pick up your game after a certain time yes the money is taken out of the system, but you can take the never to return part out, we keep track of this ad should the person show up one day we can get their money back. And this doesn't happen often, but when the system gets too full we get about 3 weeks notice that the old preorders must be removed. So we sit around and call every last one of those damn customers and tell them to come in and either buy something or switch it to another preorder or just get your damn money back. If I can't get ahold of you or you don't listen to me it's not my fucking fault. But come in like 5 months later and we'll go back through the system and check what happened and get you your money back as long you aren't lieing. The process is a pain in the ass, but very possible. We've done it before, and as of right now, I have preorders in my computer dating back to June of 2004, so the money doesn't get taken often as I said.
I stand behind Eb 100%, this guy is a moron. Now as far as gamestop goes though, from what I'm hearing and learning right now, I'm not sure what will happen. But this guy will sure never get hired by them.

Very interesting! Slave-like wages huh, why didn't he just decline the job when he first learned of them! Last I checked the slaves in my history books were not paid at all. I work 55-60 hours /week. This usually consists of 6-7 day weeks. I think junior needs to grow up and see what the real world beyond a 20hour work weeks consists of. Fuckin crybaby. I was gonna read Muffins response but I only had 2hours to be on line.

EB is owned by Gamestop...so there for EB is gonna suck real donkey dick real soon. i worked for a company back in da day called Strawberries records, and they are just like EB. the pay sux and they really dont care about employees that much. cuz guess what u are replacable to them, and that is from manager to sale person. i know some people that work at EB and they say the pay sux and the company dont peeps far thats why there is such a high turn over. asst manager's make about 25k and manager 35k to me that is not a lot to run a store. but after working in retail for more then 15 years, i know this is true. RETAIL companies DO TELL there employee what they should or can say and what never to say. big retail companies are about one thing as they should be to succeed, that is $$. but muffin i knew u would defend EB 100%, which is ok cuz u work there. but put urself on the outside, looking in at how EB does things. it aint to good, and u here that on a lot of forums. from xbox.com to playtation.com people are not happy with gamestop and eb. they say they are crooked, i could grab endless topics on them, and these arent comin from this one guy. so some truth must be there to what this guy is writing, if alot of peeps are complaining about them.

I def stand behind EB 100%, now gamestop on the other hand, I'm not so sure yet, but time will tell. Again though, most of the shit that guy said is bullshit. And on another note, since I forgot to write this earlier, we are now allowed to check out games again. It's a four day rental service, and let me tell you it's great.
I don't know what your EB are like, but mine is run great. I know the majority of my customers and know them well, some come in or call just for me, some just for my store manager, only he just went to another store. We treat our customers good, customer service is where it's at, without it we have nothing.
